Flu season is right around the corner, and it’s clear that Covid-19 is here to stay…for awhile anyway. Self-protection is the key to preventing illness during these tough times. One way to protect yourself is to stay on top of your vaccinations, including flu, measles, and pneumonia.
This year, seniors are strongly encouraged to follow through with their annual flu shots. At this point, it’s considered a must.
There are countless benefits to vaccines, including protection against preventable illness and disease, and are the #1 way to protect yourself against these life-threatening illnesses.
Here is what we suggest to further protect yourself:
Check with your doctor to ensure that you are current on all your vaccinations, including flu, measles, and pneumonia
Wash your hands regularly throughout the day
Wear a mask when in the public, even if you are going to a less-crowded area
Social distance yourself when encountering others. It is recommended that your distance is at least 6 feet apart
Put a bottle of hand sanitizer in your car or purse and use it often (after getting gas, before and after running into the grocery store, etc.)
Most Importantly: If you are feeling sick or have flu/Covid-19 symptoms, STAY HOME and contact your doctor for further instruction
Although symptoms of Covid-19 and the flu can overlap, it is important to know the differences between the two. If you feel you are experiencing any of the following, we recommend that you contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Covid-19 Symptoms:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches

We are all required to follow these recommended prevention techniques to help lessen the spread of the flu and the Covid-19 virus. Due to the recent pandemic, it is predicted that more seniors will get their flu vaccine this year, which is one major win to lessen the spread.
Remember, you have the power to protect yourself and others during the flu season/Covid-19 pandemic.
If you have any questions or concerns, we recommend you contact your doctor for suggestions and professional recommendations.
